Apple just launched a $110 billion stock buyback program, the biggest in history. Apple's new stock buyback program is more than the value of Boeing, Airbnb, and Chipotle. AdvertisementApple just launched a $110 billion stock buyback, the biggest in stock market history. Since then, the company's stock buyback programs have reduced its total share count to 15.44 billion, and at current prices, this stock buyback program would retire an additional 600 million shares. To put in perspective just how big Apple's stock buyback program is, consider these companies that have a total market value of less than $110 billion.

We’re looking back at the strongest, smartest opinion takes of the week from CNN and other outlets. In a video promoting the Bible, Trump said, “Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from this country. … we need to bring them back.”On Good Friday, Trump posted a very different kind of video. It showed an image of President Joe Biden lying sideways and tied up in the bed of a pickup truck. “Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s independent presidential campaign can’t win, but it could swing the presidency to former President Donald Trump,” Begala wrote.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed at a flag-raising ceremony for the APEC Summit last week at City Hall. This column recently noted the feverish effort by San Francisco officials to present their city as safe and thriving while dignitaries are in town for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. Mayor London Breed is especially eager to create a new media narrative about the city’s problems. But headlines don’t invent themselves and this week brings yet another reminder that if Ms. Breed doesn’t want media outlets to write stories about lawlessness then she will need to enforce laws.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Reparations advocates urged San Francisco supervisors Tuesday to adopt recommendations aimed at shrinking the racial wealth gap and otherwise improving the lives of Black residents as atonement for decades of discriminatory city policies, including the granting of a lump-sum $5 million payment to every eligible adult. San Francisco's Board of Supervisors was expected to vote Tuesday to accept the final reparations plan issued by the city's African American Reparations Advisory Committee. San Francisco embraces its image as a sanctuary for people living in the country illegally and members of the LGBTQ community. More than 200 people rallied outside City Hall before Tuesday’s board meeting, demanding that the city start addressing the enormous disparities for Black San Franciscans. Critics say the city's reparations plans are unconstitutional and would ruin the city financially.

The vote came about after California passed a law last year requiring law enforcement departments to seek approval for use of military-style equipment. We live in a time when unthinkable mass violence is becoming more commonplace," San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said in the statement. "We need the option to be able to save lives in the event we have that type of tragedy in our city.”Police Chief William Scott speaks during a news conference in San Francisco in 2019. “We run a very serious risk of misuse by police of a robot to inflict deadly force,” he said. Preston said he hoped that outrage following the first vote in San Francisco would sway more of his fellow board members to vote against the measure Tuesday.

Early last month, members of Amazon's secretive in-house research lab, Grand Challenge, were called into an unexpected video meeting. Weibel announced 3 of the 5 projects Grand Challenge was working on would shut down, effective immediately. When other team employees wanted to collaborate with the team, they needed additional approvals from its leadership. The charges are tied to the brutal attack on the House Speaker’s husband, Paul Pelosi. A police officer rolls out yellow tape on the closed street below the home of Paul and Nancy Pelosi in San Francisco, on Oct. 28. Eric Risberg / APAccording to Wednesday's indictment, Paul Pelosi told police that DePape of Richmond, Calif., who Pelosi said he had never met before, came into his bedroom while he was sleeping. Investigators said DePape identified another target who he believed Nancy Pelosi could "lure" to him. Two responding officers discovered Paul Pelosi and his assailant struggling over a hammer, which DePape allegedly used to strike Pelosi in the head before officers restrained him.
WASHINGTON — U.S. Capitol Police had a camera feed showing the outside of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's, D-Calif., home in San Francisco during the attack on her husband Friday, but no one was monitoring it at the time, two sources familiar with the situation said. The camera is one of about 1,800 at the Capitol complex and around the country that the Capitol Police have the ability to monitor. The Washington Post first reported no one was actively watching the camera feed when the break-in occurred early Friday morning. Pelosi was in Washington, D.C., at the time her husband, Paul Pelosi, was attacked. I came here to have a little chat with his wife,” DePape said he told Paul Pelosi, the filing alleges.
However, the image shows DePape filming a wedding at City Hall in San Francisco in 2013. In the photos, DePape appears to be wearing the same blue clothing as in social media posts. DePape, 42, is accused of attacking Paul, 82, with a hammer after forcing his way into the couple’s home in San Francisco on Oct. 28. The image does not show DePape filming the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Read more about our work to fact-check social media posts (here).

Mark Zuckerberg is making the same mistakes that plagued former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer. Zuckerberg, too, is making a big bet on the metaverse, one better suited for the venture capital world. As Meta shifts to become "a metaverse company" amid stalling user growth and slowing ad sales, stories are emerging about the growing pains that have arrived alongside the changes. Zuckerberg's metaverse play isn't unusual in the tech world, it's just not one we've often seen pay off outside the world of venture capital. Marissa Mayer also had an ambitious vision — and it didn't pay offFormer Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.
